Reserve Unit – General Information

Reserve Division

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Division functions to supplement all other divisions within the Sheriff’s Office to the benefit of the citizens of Christian County. This may include patrol, detention, detainee transport, civil process, or investigations. The Sheriff may call on the Reserve Division in times of natural or man-made disaster or local emergencies as additional staffing support.

Reserve Deputy Description
A Reserve Deputy is an individual who has received and maintains peace officer’s certification in accordance with Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) guidelines set forth by Revised Statutes of Missouri Chapter 590 and the Missouri Department of Public Safety – POST Commission. Reserve Deputies must comply with eligibility requirements established for all regular deputies. The Reserve Division functions under the command of the Reserve Captain and Reserve Sergeant. Deputies fall under the daily chain of command specific to their current assignment.

Reserve Requirements

Reserve Deputies are to serve a minimum of 16 hours of duty in each calendar month. All time is coordinated through their assigned chain of command. Each deputy is required to maintain their own POST certification requirements and may utilize the Sheriff’s Office training calendar for needed courses as space is available. Reserves must comply with all policies of the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.


Duties
Reserve Deputies may perform any duty a fully-certified Deputy Sheriff is allowed to perform. Reserve Deputies may partner with a fully-certified Deputy Sheriff, unless specifically approved by the Reserve Captain and the Sheriff. Reserve Deputies may be approved to cover open shifts within assigned areas at the discretion of the division commander. Reserves may also be eligible to work grant assignments. Reserve Deputies are required to comply with all employee rules and policies of the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
